What is YGN?

The Young Generation Network (YGN) is a group created by the Nuclear Institute (NI) to offer the younger members of the NI the opportunity to further their knowledge and facilitate networking between generations. It assists career progression and provides a resource for the future of the industry.

The YGN has been in existence for 14 years and currently consists of over 1200 members, for whom it promotes communication and activity with the many successful young generation networks worldwide.

Aims

To establish a national Young Generation Network that allows the knowledge and awareness of the industry to be exchanged between older and younger generations. It will encourage young people within the nuclear industry to stay within the field and provide a resource for the future. It will be a vehicle for all members, across the full spectrum of careers, to create support networks for personal developments along with encouraging continuous learning about the wider nuclear industry.

Aims and objectives:

  • Promote extensive knowledge of the nuclear industry to younger generations
  • Provide a platform for:
    • Education and training
    • Personal networking
    • Transfer of skills and experience
    • Exchange of best practice across companies
    • Development of nuclear technology
    • Career development

“The membership growth, quality and number of events, number of outreach activities, and respect the YGN has achieved over the past 14 years is testament of the dedication, calibre, and ability of its members. The industry should be proud.”

Connor Deehan, YGN Vice Chair 2010
