About YGN

What is the Young Generation Network all about?

Following the successful creation of the Young Generation Network groups within the European member Societies, the Nuclear Institute has established a similar organisation, aimed at encouraging younger members to form a network around the industry.

Aims

To establish a national Young Generation Network that allows the knowledge and awareness of the industry to be exchanged between older and younger generations. It will encourage young people within the nuclear industry to stay within the field and provide a resource for the future. It will be a vehicle for all members, across the full spectrum of careers, to create support networks for personal developments along with encouraging continuous learning about the wider nuclear industry.

Objectives

The UK's objectives are based on those established by the European Nuclear Societies, which are to:

  • focus on the next generation
  • promote knowledge in a wide perspective of the nuclear industry
  • transfer the 'know-how' within generations
  • provide a platform for:
    • personal networks
    • exchange of experience
    • exchange of best practice across companies
    • development of nuclear technology
    • recruitment and job opportunities
    • career development

The direct link to the ENS YGNs means there is an opportunity to encourage cross-European exchanges of knowledge and experiences. A number of groups are well established within Europe and we are looking to learn from their experiences on how to make the initiative more successful.
